PREMIUM RETAIL : INTERIOR
Our client Caroline Brown, Head of Store Projects at Brown Thomas approached 3:rock to help design and build the centrepiece to their new brand ‘Planet Beauty’ in the new Brown Thomas store in Dundrum Town Centre.
This was a very ambitious plan to design, construct and install a large 3M metal globe and suspended illuminated signage. We knew from the outset that this piece was going to look spectacular, and we weren’t disappointed.
This would be one of our most creative and testing endeavours to date but we were really excited about the challenge and the possibility of how the finished piece could look. We were tasked to design a 3M diameter Earth globe complete with continents and made entirely from metal that needed to come in under 100kg. It would also need to be built in two parts so it could be transported and installed on-site. A high degree of coordination was required with the contractor T&I Fitouts to ensure everything on site was constructed to match the size, shape and the mounting plates on the globe perfectly as there was no margin for error.
This was a fantastic team effort from our Design Dept, Production Management and our Metal Craftsmen to produce the finished piece and resolve any problems during the fabrication process. The globe itself was built entirely by hand by our craftsman Paul O’Rowe and took three weeks. It has been handcrafted from aluminium making it 100% recyclable in keeping with the sustainability ethos of Brown Thomas. All of the fabrication processes and illumination requirements were coordinated by Darren Bligh our Production Manager.
The finished globe is simply stunning and has now taken centre stage in the recently opened Brown Thomas store. It has been a fantastic project for a fantastic client and a real privilege to have been involved with. The Planet Beauty Globe has tested every facet of our creative and manufacturing capabilities but the finished result is one we are extremely proud of and we hope you like it.
